Avantus, a premier U.S. developer of utility-scale solar and solar-plus-storage projects, announced that Venkatesh Inti has been appointed as the company’s Chief Development Officer. Inti will lead a team responsible for advancing and expanding the company’s development portfolio, which includes approximately 30 gigawatts (GWdc) of solar and 94 GW hours (GWh) of energy storage.

Today, Avantus announced the signing of a power purchase agreement with Arizona Public Service (APS) for the Kitt Solar Project. This agreement marks another major milestone in Avantus’ presence in Arizona and the continued growth of solar and energy storage in the state. Located in Pinal County, Arizona within the City of Eloy, the Kitt Solar Project features 100 MWac/130 MWdc of solar and 400 MWh of energy storage. Avantus will complete development and start construction of the project in 2025, with operations expected to begin in 2026.

Avantus announced today the sale of the Catclaw Solar and Energy Storage Project to D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI). Located in Buckeye, Arizona in Maricopa County, the project features up to 225 MWac of solar and 250 MW/1,000 MW-hours of energy storage. The transaction includes a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Arizona Public Service (APS) for the project. Avantus was responsible for the initial greenfield development including interconnection, site acquisition and permitting, as well as commercial negotiations with APS and the procurement of select equipment, including batteries.

Today, Avantus (formerly 8minute) and Toyota Tsusho America (TAI) announced the beginning of construction of the 159 megawatt (MWdc)/125 MWac Norton Solar Project in Runnels County, Texas. Issuance of a Notice to Proceed (NTP) follows Avantus’ sale of the Norton project in November 2023 to TAI, a 100% subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho Corporation of Japan, one of the Toyota Group Companies. TAI has also closed on a construction and term financing agreement with global financial group Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group.

Avantus (formerly 8minute) and UNITE-LA were joined by Los Angeles City Council President Paul Krekorian on Monday to celebrate the first graduating class of the Avantus Cleantech Career Academy (Avantus Academy). Located in Kern County, California, Bellefield will feature a total of one-gigawatt of solar and up to one-gigawatt of energy storage across two phases. The transaction includes a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with a corporate customer for phase one of the project. Avantus was responsible for the commercial negotiations with the customer and the procurement of key equipment.

Avantus (formerly 8minute) today announced the sale of Big Rock 1 energy storage project to Gore Street Energy Storage Fund plc (LON: GSF), a London-based publicly traded fund managed by Gore Street Capital Ltd.
