“The Hawthorn is an old historical building, once home to the Frank Jones Brewing Company. It offers towering ceilings, wood beams, expansive red-brick walls, and original slate roof that has witnessed more than 140 years of Portsmouth’s history,” explains managing director Samantha Roberson.
The Hawthorn Event Venue is designed for people who want to create their own historic moment. Opening its doors in June 2025, it has already seen numerous weddings and other events, drawing attention from people in the Portsmouth area, and nationwide. The charming interiors showcase more than 140 years of history, maintaining their original features for added character.
Recently renovated and revamped, The Hawthorn is suitable for people planning grand receptions, weddings, or simply to celebrate special occasions. The structure is among the few surviving buildings from Portsmouth’s industrial heritage and is viewed as part of the heart of the community, with plenty of spaces for guests to avoid the vicissitudes of the weather indoors.
Nearby, event-goers can access the beautiful harbor and seacoast. The charming downtown area is also close by and fun to explore.
“Wedding couples love our location,” Roberson explains, “because there are so many photo opportunities and romantic settings. Being close to so much beauty is one of the reasons The Hawthorn continues to attract so many patrons to this day.”
Prices for event hire are available by contacting the venue. In total, there are more than 6,000 square feet of space available, with 3,800 for events. Receptions and ceremonies are welcome, and celebration times can be extended until 11 p.m. Nearby, there is a full catering kitchen and The Hawthorn can supply wine, beer, and liquor on request.
